Okay all you would be snide snipers.. BF2 sniper school 101 begings here, and class is in session. First of all, allow me to introduce myself. My BF2 screen name is (1_SHOT riccimurphy). I've been playing the EA battlefield games since they were in pampers .. I can truly say that I love them all.. (battlefield 1942 imparticular will forever hold a special place in my hart.... sniffle.... nothing in the world like landing on the bow of an enemy carrier, jumping into the tail gunner position and layng waste to thier spawn point, then deck bombing them into oblivion.. AHhhhhhh those were the days, ROFL.. I love the smell of nubs in the morning)
Anyway.. lets start off with a simple technique that I've found to be very effective improving my score while at the same time minimazing the time I spend on my back calling for a medic.. I call it OPEN AIR COVER.. yup, you heard right.. OPEN AIR (This follows the old saying that "the best hiding spot is in plain sight" Do not spend the game hiding in one spot.. or any spot for that matter (waiting for someone to walk by so you can pop them from 50 yards or more)... Spot a target, drop (or pop up) put the cross hairs on his head and fire... if you dont drop him you will most likely draw his fire, this is okay.. he is almost certain to loose this one on one contest if you remain (literally) calm under fire, remember, you have the advantage of distance and surprise on your side. (Sometimes I'll even shoot in the air to acomplish this) Get up and stand in the middle of the street (keep your distance and dont go prone till you have the shot, if he shoots jump like a rabit while facing him, Do not run for cover! just keep moving and keep your eye on him... or act like your running for cover. duck in for a split sec.... then pop out and take the shot. Head shots are best and not as difficult as you may think. or take any shot if you have the shot. (you can tell that you hit him when a small x appears in the center of your cross hairs), Sniping in BF2 is all about taking well placed quick shots.. hesitation will leave you on your back yelling... Medic! (hit and move, stick and move like a prize fighter. he'll either run for cover or go prone.. prone is where we want him, after he drops prone. You go prone. and move lateraly) .. this will do 2 things, 1: Present you with a single target to hit.. His head.. (1 shot 1 kill), and 2: throw of his shots by prsenting him with a small moving target. Keep moving untill you have your shot. the key is to keep your distance and keep moving... when you have your shot. Stop moving and (TAKE IT) if you miss get up and move irratically until the rifle reloads.. then drop and take another. more than likely, you'll be barely visible to anyone else but a sniper.. .the advantage of the sniper kit is the ability to strike from a distance.

Now Lets Take a look at the weapons in the sniper class: Choose your weapon
Standard issue USMC (M24) bolt action rifle
The standard issue USMC rifle kit includes the (M24) it's an excellent weapon. Some prefer this rifle over the highly acclaimed L96A1 unlock, The (M24) bolt action rifle is accurate, holds a ? Shot clip and reloads in ? Seconds. The kit contains ? Clips for a total of ?? rounds. 100% damage or (1 head shot =1 kill), ?? Damage to the body or (2 body shots =1 kill) the slight recoil is not a factor due to the out of scope reloading nature of the bolt action after every shot. The scope cross hair lines are a thin cross scope (+). The thin convergence point allows for very accurate distant target acquisition)
Standard issue MEC (Dragunov SVD 7.62mm) Auto snipe
The standard issue MEC rifle kit includes the (Dragunov SVD) auto snipe, It's a great weapon, accurate at distance and you don't have to leave the scope view until the clip is empty, This feature also allows the SVD to be used as a devastating mid to close range weapon. The SVD auto snipe holds a ? Shot clip and reloads in ? Seconds. The kit contains ? Clips for a total of ?? rounds. 100% damage or (1 head shot =1 kill), ?? damage to the body or (? body shots =1 kill) the slight recoil is a factor due to the auto per shot reload in scope, this will force you to make slight adjustments after each shot to maintain your target.. The scope cross hair lines are a thin dotted cross scope (T) complimented by about 5 (^) arrows below the center point. (I personally find this distracting but When mastered, this rifle is very accurate in distant target acquisition).
Standard issue China (Type 88) Auto snipe
The standard issue China rifle kit includes the (Type 88) auto snipe. It's an excellent weapon very accurate at distance. Due to it's automatic nature, you don't have to leave the scope view until the clip is empty. This feature allows the Type 88 to be used as a devastating mid to close range weapon. The Type 88 auto snipe holds a ? Shot clip and reloads in ? Seconds. The kit contains ? Clips for a total of ?? rounds. 100% damage or (1 head shot =1 kill), ?? Damage to the body or (? body shots =1 kill) the slight recoil (Up and away) is a factor due to the auto per shot reload in scope. this forces the shooter to make slight adjustments after each shot to maintain the target. The scopes cross hair lines are????? Cross scope (+) this rifle is extremely accurate in distant target acquisition).
(M95) .50 Cal bolt action unlock
The 1st unlock available to snipers is the 50 caliber (M95). It's a good weapon, powerful and fairly accurate at mid distance. but beware, the accuracy of this rifle drops consideraly as the distance increases (I blame this on the thick, view blocking cross hair lines) Don't get me wrong, You'll be able to pop off distant body shots all day with this baby ( even distant, hilltop, ridge line or building siloet shots) but, Long range 1 shot one kill head shots with the M95 reqiure considerable skill, (again, This is due to the scopes thick Cross hail lines). Also, Just like the rest of the bolt action rifles in the game, you have to leave the scope view to reload, after every shot. The .50 cal M95's recoil (Up and away), is large enough to force you reaquire even stationary targets if you don't drop them with one shot............... Aside from that, This rifle packs quite a punch, It's the only rifle in the game with the capability to penetrate the cockpit windshields of any aircraft or land vehicle in BF2, a well placed shot from the M95 can down a chopper or a plane if you hit the pilot (believe me, it's quite rewarding when you take out a chopper or harrier at distance with one shot from your .50 cal...) As far as anti personnel, 100+% damage or (1 head shot =1 kill), 95% damage to the body or (2 body shots =1 kill) I personally feel that the power of this rifle should be bumped up. I mean come on,,, It's a FIFTY CALIBER rifle, EA should make this rifle more powerful, less accurate, Louder & the recoil more pronounced. IT should be able to take out personnel with 1 shot no mater where the round hits em. (Just my opinion), anyway, it holds a ? Shot clip and reloads in ? Seconds. The kit contains ? Clips for a total of ?? rounds. The scope cross hair lines are a thick cross scope (+). the thick convergence point detracts from accurate distant target acquisition)
(L96A1) bolt action unlock
Finally we have the highly acclaimed (L96A1) it's the final unlock for the sniper class (Note: this unlock is only available to gamers’ who have the Special forces expansion pack installed. This bolt action rifle is my personal weapon of choice. It’s extremely accurate & very powerful. The report or (sound) it makes when it's fired is like a sharp thunder clap followed up by long drawn out oscillating reverb. The (L96A1) holds a ? Shot clip and reloads in ? Seconds. The kit contains ? Clips for a total of ?? rounds. 100+% damage or (1 head shot =1 kill), 95% damage to the body or (2 body shots =1 kill) the recoil is not a factor and almost non existent and not really a factor due to the out of scope reloading nature of the bolt action after every shot. The scope cross hair lines are a very thin cross scope (+). The thin convergence point allows for extremely accurate distant target acquisition)

first-open air cover is an oxy moron
second-i kill people like you all day. you dont kill them in the first shot but i notice your muzzle flash and wait for your second shot. thats when im the sniper on the other side and drops you. drawing his fire is not really what would concern me. its someone else i didnt see in the area that seen my muzzle flash when i dont know hes there is my concern. 1 shot-1 kill or wound him then get the hell out of dodge. try again at a new location.
im curious how you got expert sniper but you dont even know much about the guns. you dont have to reaquire a stationary target with svd. after every shot it falls back where it was.
He makes this SNIPER vid - which is ok - but have u seen his bf2 stats? - well there really shit - he only has 3311 kills & 3555 DEATHS - not much of a sniper.

I will be honest and say that some of the things he said were true, however i will have to disagree with most of what he said. you should never be in plain sight. i kill noobs like that all day long. just find a good position and stay hidden and fire when you have a good shot. one shot one kill. dont give up your position by leaving someone alive to find out where you are.i do agree with him on the M95. if i hit someone in the arm, it should kill them.

This guide was O.K. Spend more time on it IMHO. Some tips were nice, but... oh well.
The movie was made by a low-teen yo boy who only showed clips where he already had aimed at the target and showed us simple Headshots.

The guides really good. the only problem i had was the less than good weapons guide.
how do you unlock the snipeer rifles
One question is there any like ranking for the best snipers like they have for jet pilots and stuff. And this guide is good it makes since and trust me i know how to snipe well, over 2000 kills and 173 hours of it.
Also yes the standing in plain sight isn't that smart. And for a starter when hiding make sure you as less seen as possible, don't be on the ridge of a hill/mountain your outline is a dead give away, and don't be right next to the window shooting stand back and not in good view from door. Also some people don't seem to believe it YES there is bullet drop this i can not say how it works you have to learn it yourself. Also make sure you have claymores for protection, and its good to have something behind you to block out your outline (like a tree or rock). Remember also that grass/and small plants disappear at a distance thats why i put the above. ALWAYS be moving, not in plain sight but in cover, this makes it less likely to be found by other sniper, or commander. Yes i have more tips and crap but dont want to spend much more time on it.

To kill from a distance like i said you have to learn and get used to it yourself you cant really teach it. But since theres bullet drop you need to aim a little high then the target and dont try hitting moving ones from this far only the best can do that.
The EA should improve the sniper scope sight. Like counter strike...( any of the snipers & sniper rifle allow to be zoom twice). The M95 is the powerful weapon due to his caliber..but this function block due of the scope that not allow it to zoom for long distance. All of the snipers in BF2 are limited kill due to the distance range. Hope EA can attn.
how do you unlock the m95 and l96
to help you unlock the sniper rifles like the L96A1. you have two choices, one, move up through the ranks to get the unlock, or two, get a copy of bf2 special forces and play two full rounds in it and it gives you 5 unlocks, then choose the L96A1 and some others and then it will carry over to your regular bf2. hope that helps....

ive seen alot of these people in the field and can say theyre good but i think riccimurphy is the best next joker. They are telling the truth here also. Both are good tactics (standing in plain sight, and hiding) it just depends on the players, how the round is going, and how much you want to die.(:0)
What pisses me off is when i find an awesome snipin spot and im makin a bunch of kills then a car falls on me.
i dunno what to think of this guide, i dont play much BF online, but what i do as sniper, is just find a safe place, get my sniper, lock target and fire. i dont hide at bases becouse most peoople there move, what is pretty hard to kill than imo. snipers are used as support, when in a battle snipers can take out hard opponents. when you get attacked as sniper the chance is big you're dead! so you must make 1 or 2 kills. and try always kill with 1 shot! becouse else people will notice they'r hunted down by sniper and its harder to kill people who are moving. after 2 kills, its better to move on (slowly and try to be unseen). imo snipers are more assasin likely, or they need to support at big battles.

Simplest, Easiest way to not be seen, is to hide. and hide very well.. "open Air cover" may work once, but, you'll end up pretty dead pretty soon. Medium sized grass, Bushes and tree growths make excellent hiding spots, the aim is to use your ghille suit, SURE on top a of a building is cool, but when the other guy notices the sillohette of a bush, on a hotel's roof, you're gonna be eating his lead. Another point, Up high, is not necisarily best. Ground level bushes can work just as well... you can shoot the mysterious roof bushes :D.
*Please note, i am in NO WAY any expert sniper or anything, i have a terrible k/d ratio, but, i have a brain, and an opinion, and thats what im sharing..

Okay first of all Counter Strike is wrong, a real sniper scope cannot be zoomed in a second time, unless you take out one of the lenses and reinsert it to zoom in a second time which requires taking apart your scope and playing bad powerpoint slideshow sniping. Unless using a digital video scope, standard scopes zoom in once, they have a set number of lenses inside the scope which determines how far it zooms. People that are asking you to unlock weapons, you get your first unlock at the rank of Corporal I believe. Second tier unlocks require ownership of the Battlefield 2 expansion pack Special Forces. I disagree with the gun statistics, the SVD Dragunov is not a good sniper weapon at long range, the carrots it uses as bullet drop indicators are too thick. The best sniper rifles are the Remington M24 and the Accuracy Internationale L96A1, I have kept surprising statistics on the sniper rifles. The Barrett M95 has the slowest traveling bullets and the most bullet drop. The Chinese Liberation Army and the Middle Eastern Coalition (MEC) stock snipers do not zoom in as far as the bolt actions. The Barrett M95 is also a 1 shot kill, if the person is playing a kit with no extra body armor, and you hit him in the chest, neck or head the kits without body armor are: Sniper, Engineer, Medic, and Spec Ops. (Edit)They introduced a patch where all the sniper rifles, besides the Type 88 and the Dragunov do the same damage, even with body armor or not. This annoys me very much, the M95 now does the same amount of damage as the M24 and L96A1. If you are shot with any of the bolt action rifles with/without body armor it leaves you with two segments of health. +Plus+ A good way to snipe if you do not get a headshot is pull out your sidearm, fire a volley of shots with your pistol, 1 in the head to kill or 2 in the minor areas. So after you fire your sniper rifle if you do not get a headshot pull out your pistol and shoot, this goes to great effect even at long range.
Some time's i get confused with real life sniping and game sniping but they both have one special thing in common and that is "digging" and patience.
Digging is when you just get into the deepest cover you can with a small view on the map that you can vary by movign a fraction.
and paitence is pretty much self explainitory

its a garrenteed headshot and the m95 is cool if people c u have a sniper and think u wont be able get a shoot off in time cause a close distance 1 m95 shot= i more kill
how to get the m95 and other unlocks is u have to kill people with weapns from the recon category and eventually u will unlock
was the guy who wrote the guide drunk the m95 is the last recon unlock no first (dir-dir-dirrr)
I am on top of the score board all the time when i snipe. This is how it is done. Find cover and always have some bushes behind you so you are camoflauged. And one more thing and it is so true if any one is truly good they will have a high true rank i repeat if you are good you will have a high true rank and im not talking about rank im talking about when you look atb your stats you can look at your true rank.

Check out for exemple the stats of weapons on the site of the URL i let you. You got all you need to think about..
- All snipers rifles need 1 headshot to kill, but same as many weapons...
The difference with M95 is to pierce all vehicles cockpit.
(Thats THE skill... Headshot helico before die.)
- The damage of single shot rifles on human is 95, the damage of one bullet of pistol is 20.
The health in BF2 is like 110/120.
- You must to know that because of the game's system, a headshot on a vehicle MOVING (jeep, humvie etc..) at more than 900/1000 METERS is really easy to get.
(dt work for helicos or tank gunners.)
- For be a good sniper you must to dt forget the power of pistols and the rock of knives, as important as your trigger speed.
- Use your battlerecorder or spectate mode on the servers you estimate good leveled for discover more about.
- The sniper is a support, everibody needs time and teamwork for become a general.
Just for finish, the video sounds good but this guy is just at intermediate level...

I think for the accurated shooters its useful...
Any headshot get his damage multiplied by 3.
For wisely choice your weapon, take care of the following things:
The deviation when Standing / Crouching / Prone
The Dev. mod when zoomed or not
The Dev. added per Shot
For exemple, any sniper rifle got a basic dev of 0.005.
But, (with L96 A1) you got a dev. when standing of 2, which to add at your apprecicion of the bullet drop.
The bullet drop: Any weapon got a dev, which make the bullet landing into a cone. Between any shot, this cone needs time to reduce at the basic dev. Bullet drop is your "perfect shot" failed cause your gun was hot.
Short story of that (studious) comment:
(position of shooter dev.) + (dev. added per shot) + (basic dev. / time to get back the DA/S) = A perfect shot.
I know its kind of intellectual, but in theory you can choice the part of the target's head you want shoot.

@Sup, the M95 is the first unlock in BF2 and is able to puncture the cockpit glass on the choppers and the jets.

Snipers are not near-invivncible badasses. I killed a sniper about a dozen times yesterday, he killed me twice. He has a 1.8:1 kill ratio and is a Brigadier General. You fail to mention that a skilled marksman with an assault rifle (I prefer the G3)can take down a sniper. I've done it multiple times. Th key is to pop up in different spots randomly and fire single rounds in 2s and 3s. He can only fire once, and if you fire a couple rounds and duck again, he'll never have the chance.
I disagree with statemment that l961a is the best sniper. And must say that I eat uncovered snipers for breafast with automacic snipers(SVD ant type-88). It does not matter if opponent making ballet dancing(bunny hopping) or not if you learn how to annulate recoil of automatic sniper you are away ahead!Enyone who mastered automatic rifles WILL make more kills and points than bolt sniper users unless they are using aimbot.I agree with tacticts and stay uncovered and jump left and right waiting for opponent sniper taking the shot on you and that way find out his position afther that he is soon dead. I can make with svd 3 shots at the same spot in one-two seconds and that is enough to kill almost anyone.Learn how to control automatic snipers and you WILL rock for shure.
This guide is good but there are several things that I disagree with. First off open air cover is just stupid, u need to find a good spot where you have a good view of the battlefield but your not out in the open and pick the shots you take. Don't just start taking pop shots at people you know u can't hit, that's when the sniper on the other team takes your scalp. And the m95 can be just as accurate as the other rifles. It just takes time to learn the bullet drop effect.

i agree that the m95 is not the 1st sniper you unlock, i must disagree with you, you can drop a chopper with 1 shot with the m95, take out the pilot and boom, done it a few times myself...and it does feel good
I am the best sniper in bf2 1.0. I am playing on the best sniper server WYD elite snipers only for a long long time. I my oppinion SVD is the only gun which rule, another guns sucks! It is very awful that in bf2 this gun cases so little damage. Believe me, I am from Russia and I shooted from real SVD so i know how much damage it cases in real life. And it is great that only in WYD elite snipers it killes from one or two shoots. Also SVD is the best gun for no scoping on short distances. Very bad that SVD is hacker's gun. Many hackers use it. I was in such situation many times. Noob snipers were crying that I am a haker and they will call the admins...

Hey, I've been playing the demo for a year and a half now and I've been very impressed with the toggle from the M24 to the M95 because I can usually plant a Head shot on a moving target with the M24 and kill, but with my M95 I can plant a body shot (Moving Target) and usually kill. I have noticed that the Demo and the full BF2 have a power difference.

i dont have multiplayer bf2 (only singleplayer) but i am working on getting it. for any of you wannabe snipers out there i recommend playing great wall map as the EU. select the spawn point near the hole in the wall, climb up the wall. to your left there will be a watchtower. climp up to the top platform and place a single claymore on the stairs. now you can practice your sniping. as for cover there are rampants (i think thats what they're called) that you can hide behind. just keep moving in between these if the enemy spots you and watch out for tanks and grenades! otherwise you can practice your sniping skills in peace. just make sure to compensate for bullet drop.

ps. whilst this map is good for sniping you can only ever cover up to half of it at any given location and it might be a good idea to change location occasionally. (hence it is recommended for beginners)
